We’ve just had the absolute pleasure of styling a beautiful house on the river Derwent, Co Durham prior to the owners putting it on the market. The main areas of focus for the styling were the lounge, kitchen-diner and the bedrooms.
Prior to our arrival, the house had been given a deep clean so we set to work on the lounge. To create light and more space, we moved all of the furniture. The only item that wasn’t moved was the TV. We removed all the items from the bookcases and tables and once the furniture was in its new space, a selection of pieces were placed for display with the remainder either being packed away or given to charity. The difference to the room, just by moving the furniture, was huge as it created more space and made the room lighter.
The next room to be tackled was the kitchen. Once again, we moved the furniture to show the room at its best, which in this case, involved moving the dining table to in front of the window. The kitchen had lots of open shelves and glass front cupboards so everything was removed and then a selection of attractive items were carefully styled into the shelves etc.
The hallway had a small amount of attention but mainly just removing coats and shoes. The bathrooms and toilets too had only a little attention needed, mainly slimming down the number of toiletries and putting out fresh towels.
In the bedrooms we focussed on putting anything away which didn't add to the room. The master bedroom, with its huge window overlooking the river, needed only a throw added to bring the scheme together. The spare room was de-cluttered with crisp white bedding and cushions added. In the final bedroom we moved some of the furniture, decluttered and added some cushions and flowers. As a result of these changes, the house feels much lighter and more spacious throughout so much so that the client was thinking twice about putting it on the market. The client's were also very pleased that the work was very reasonable.
